MRLDA Names Paul Tarca of Concord Lumber Corporation, 2019’s Lumber Person of the Year

At the last annual meeting, the Massachusetts Retail Lumber Dealers Association (MRLDA) awarded Paul Tarca of Concord Lumber Corporation in Littleton, Mass., the “2019 Lumber Person of the Year” award. This annual award is in recognition of an individual’s significant contributions to their local lumber and building materials industry, and is “one of the highest honors given by one’s peers…”.

Paul Tarca grew up in Berlin, Connecticut and is a graduate of Berlin High School. He then attended Southern Connecticut State University where he played college baseball for four years, as a varsity starting pitcher, while he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics with a minor in Computer Science.

In 1983, Paul began his career as a manager and purchaser for R.W. Hine Hardware, in Cheshire, Connecticut. Paul’s first job within the LBM industry was with Manchester Lumber where he was employed within their purchasing department from 1990 – 1999. Paul and his family then moved to Massachusetts where he became a member of the employee-owned Concord Lumber Corporation team. Concord Lumber Corporation is a residential construction and home improvement company that was established in 1946. It currently operates two lumberyards & hardware stores, a millwork division, a kitchen & bath design center and seven paint & decorating stores. Paul began as a member of the sales team and eventually moved into a lumber purchasing role as the former owner of Concord Lumber Corporation, George Senkler, retired.

Paul has now worked for Concord Lumber Corporation for twenty years, where he currently serves as a member of their leadership team and the Head of Purchasing. Paul’s other contributions within the LBM industry are plentiful and include; Vice Chair of LBM Forest Products Committee, Board of Director of the Massachusetts Retail Lumber Dealers Association (MRLDA), Board of Director of Co-op Reserve, and past President of the MRLDA. In his tenure within the LBM industry Paul has always prioritized being an active member of the community, his dedication is beyond admirable and through this award the MRLDA seeks to recognize and convey their appreciation for his service.

Paul Tarca met his wife of 33 years, Anne at SCSU in the field house where Anne ran track. They currently reside in Littleton, MA where they raised their two children Shane and Devon. Paul remains an avid baseball fan, and is a supporter of the Boston Red Sox and UConn Basketball teams. In his spare time he enjoys golfing and spending time at the beach in Rhode Island with his family. He credits his parents for his work ethic and steadiness, and baseball for early lessons in teaching him that commitment, teamwork and determination can lead to winning. As someone who is constantly looking to pass his knowledge forward Paul’s words of wisdom for the next generation are as follows:

  • Treat people the way you wish to be treated,

  • Honor your word and stand by your deeds
